Welcome to the TASTE & TECHNOLOGY ISSUE
I have always been an analog girl at heart, with an unreasonably strong connection to the handwritten note, fountain pens and fine stationary. I like big- block, internal combustion engines from the ‘60s that shake the whole chassis when you turn the ignition, I would rather not watch television than try to decipher the complex operating system of my fancy universal remote, and don’t get me started on the computerized heating and cooling timer I have in my house.
But technology is an integral part of all our lives with digital communication becoming as ubiquitous as the wheel. Just like my beloved fountain pen and the air conditioner that makes life bearable for New Yorkers in August, the Internet has finally matured into something not just technically advanced, but aesthetically satisfying. And THAT is the point where I get excited. The convergence of technology and taste; the point where art and innovation happily collide allowing us to create things we are truly proud of. The engineers of the 1965 Shelby “Super Snake “ AC Cobra, with its growling 427 engine — the pinnacle of power and beauty in its day —understood the power of this combination and created what many consider the most desirable car ever made. It is in this vein MODCo endeavors to use the Internet’s powerful technology and our unique aesthetics to create work we are proud of, work that is both visually compelling and useful for our clients. Powerful work.
I often hear from clients that they are frustrated by “digital or technology” companies’ inability to translate their vision, or creative companies who are not able to harness the power of current technology in a way that supports their brand ethos. I am somewhat astonished at this conundrum because, while I may not want to use my fancy remote, I do embrace the vast capacity for seamless information, entertainment and — dare I say — beauty, presented by our rapidly maturing digital age. And as strange as it may seem, I am quite enjoying creating visually striking and powerful communication tools in a digital language. The results are happy clients and beautiful, effective work. Who’d have thunk it? The perfect marriage of taste and technology. Maybe I’ll even take another look at that remote…
Onward ho!
