Obama is officially the first sitting president EVER to back same-sex marriage, saying in an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America, "At a certain point, I have just concluded that, for me personally, it is important for me to affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married."

I've long been inspired by some of the fashion pros who manage to pull off the print-on-top-of-print look so effortlessly. Artistic director for online retailer Moda Operandi Taylor Tomasi Hill and model Giovanna Battaglia are two of my absolute favorites. This month, in the May issue of Harper's Bazaar Mexico, a beautiful bright editorial featuring Dominican model Arlenis Sosa showcases spring's boldest and brightest prints. Lensed by Kevin Sinclair, the story features page after page of bold designs from Roberto Cavalli, Derek Lam, Givenchy and so on. Set against a ombre neon blue sky, the fabrics jump out and make you take notice. With all this inspiration, I may, in fact, dare to be bold with a mixed print look myself. Stay tuned... - Lindsey

Werner @ the Whitney

Many emerging visual artists cite New German Cinema vanguard Werner Herzog as an inspiration. In an interesting twist of mixed media, Herzog cites a painter: 17th century Dutch artist Hercules Segers. Even more than an inspiration, Herzog believes Segers to be a kindred spirit. The painter’s sweeping, often desolate landscapes are saturated with a dark or tense moodiness, yet revel in details. No surprise then, the overlap with Herzog’s own approach to cinema. When the Whitney Museum approached him about participating in the Biennial, Herzog took the chance to pay homage, with a large-scale video installation of Segers’s works. It seems as though Herzog has been everywhere lately, and this coming week he will be speaking at the Whitney. Given the mixed reviews of not only his installation but the Biennale overall, I’m especially looking forward to hearing the verbose director’s insights. The talk is being held at high noon on Thursday May 17th; the program is included in the cost of museum admission, but special entry tickets (available first come first serve) are required to attend. Case and point is this brilliant cookbook from the German design firm Korefe. It's both astonishingly simple and elegantly presented. And it's good enough to eat! - Andrew

I’d much rather dinner with my movie. Now, thanks to Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg my dream has been realized: I can eat in the theater! In true quirky Brooklyn fashion, the ingeniously named menu items fit the genre of the current or classic movie being shown, a la “Prim’s ‘Getting By’ Goat Cheese Sandwich” for Hunger Games fans. (Unfortunately, due to theater laws you'll have to enjoy your "Cabin Fever" cocktail beforehand.) And it's as good a time as any to forgo traditional movie popcorn for Nitehawk’s version – peppered with lime, cilantro and cotija cheese. Plus, you get the chance to check out short clips by local filmmakers before the movies starts. Visit Nitehawk’s website for a full schedule of shows and pricing.
Timeless at Tribeca

The latest Kate Bosworth film, While We Were Here, premiered at Tribeca this past week, and is already garnering well-deserved critical acclaim. Shot on a shoestring, the film nonetheless exudes timelessness, due both to the script and the execution. The story — of marriage, infidelity and choices — is kept spare, such that the complexity in each moment and the subtle layers of the relationships can shine through. Iddo Goldberg and Jamie Blackley give resonant performances as Husband and Lover respectively, while Kate delivers one of the richest, most complex performances of her career. As Jane, her tension and repressed disappointment in her marriage are palpable, as is the glimmer of hope she can’t fight while spending time with a young stranger. Directed by Kat Coiro and produced by Lauren Bratman (the same team behind quirky indie chick flick L!FE Happens) the film was shot in black and white on the Amalfi Coast, achieving a wistful, romantic texture. As contemporary as the Tribeca Film Festival is, it’s refreshing to see a classic homage now and again. While We Were Here runs through this Sunday, April 29th. Check out the Tribeca site for theaters and tickets. — Erika

The show is one of the hottest exhibits in New York right now, with over 170 of Sherman’s compelling photos on view. Sherman is known for her provocative portrayals of contemporary personality, exploring everything from 50s gender roles to pop culture sterotypes and aristocractic identity. Always her own model, Sherman has produced fascinating and provocative caricatures that range from mysterious to disturbing, as well as comedic. Who can forget Dolce and Gabbana's Byzantine show with the beautiful stone dresses at the end? Then there was Karl Lagerfeld, who shipped glaciers from the North Pole to Paris for the Chanel show. This season, Marc Jacobs takes the ticket for one of the most illustrative and unique Louis Vuitton presentations of all time: It opened with a steam engine carrying 40+ glamazon passengers. One by one, each girl was helped out of the steel car by her own personal bell boy, who carried two or three exquisite bags or luggage pieces. The dresses blended turn-of-the-century fashion references – (think: Titanic / Downton Abbey) – using stones and beading as texture, and outrageous hats and footwear as decoration.
